About Our Community
The Robie Area Firewise Community is a volunteer-led neighborhood effort to reduce wildfire risk in the greater Robie Drive area of Auburn, California.
The Firewise USA® Program
Firewise USA® is a national recognition program co-sponsored by the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA), USDA Forest Service, and the National Association of State Foresters. It provides a framework for communities to reduce their wildfire risk through education, planning, and neighborhood action.
Risk Assessment
Working with state forestry agencies and fire departments to assess community-wide wildfire risks, identifying areas of success and areas for improvement. Assessments are updated every five years.
Action Plan
The community develops a three-year action plan that identifies and prioritizes actions to mitigate fire risk, including community-wide investments and homeowner recommendations.
Annual Investment
Each community invests the equivalent of one volunteer hour per dwelling unit annually in wildfire risk reduction. Activities include vegetation management, home assessments, and educational outreach. Residents can report their hours and investments here.
Annual Events & Reporting
Each year the community hosts outreach events—such as neighborhood gatherings, educational talks, or community service days—and reports progress toward action plan goals.
Our Community
The greater Robie area is a beautiful neighborhood situated on the edge of the American River Canyon in Auburn, California. This scenic location also means we are in the wildland-urban interface (WUI)—an area where homes and wildland fuels intermix, creating elevated wildfire risk.
We are part of the Greater Auburn Area Fire Safe Council, a grassroots organization that mobilizes residents across the city and surrounding Placer County areas to protect their homes and communities from catastrophic wildfire.
Benefits of Being a Firewise Community
- Potential insurance discounts — California requires insurers to offer discounts to property owners in Firewise communities who have reduced their wildfire risk
- Access to grant funding for community mitigation projects like vegetation management, defensible space, and home hardening
- Free educational resources and support from NFPA and partner agencies
- Stronger community connections through shared goals and neighborhood collaboration
- A safer environment for firefighters to defend homes during wildfire events
