One Free Hour of Chipping in August

Requests submitted August 1 – 31, 2026

In light of this active fire season, the Placer County Resource Conservation District is waiving the first hour of its chipper service for requests submitted between August 1 and August 31, 2026. Chipping normally costs $80/hour with a one-hour minimum; during the promotion Placer County residents get that first hour free and pay the pro-rated $80/hour rate after that. Limit one free service per household. Only submit a request once your piles are stacked and ready to chip — and because it is hot and dry, build your piles in the morning while it is still cool and use only tools unlikely to throw a spark.

Placer County Earns State Fire Risk Reduction Designation

The California Board of Forestry and Fire Protection added the County of Placer to its 2026 Fire Risk Reduction Community List, effective July 1, 2026, recognizing that the county meets the state's standards for wildfire prevention and planning. For our neighborhood, the clearest benefit is in grant funding: the designation gives the county, the Placer County Resource Conservation District, fire safe councils, HOAs, and nonprofits priority consideration for certain CAL FIRE wildfire prevention grants that pay for work in and around the Auburn area. On insurance, note that the state list names the County of Placer rather than the City of Auburn, so ask your insurer whether it applies at your address — and be sure to ask separately about the Firewise USA® community discount, which applies to every home inside our boundary.

Auburn Fire Department Announces the 2026 Robie Point Public Right-of-Way Project

The City of Auburn Fire Department and Public Works Department will begin Phase 1 of the Robie Point Public Right-of-Way Vegetation Management Project the week of March 16th, focused on improving emergency access and reducing wildfire risk by thinning tree canopy and trimming roadside vegetation along Robie Drive.
